My bags are pack and I'm ready to go!

One week and counting down! I leave in 7 days...this time next week I will be on the plane headed for Africa. I'm excited and a little anxious. Please pray for safety as I travel and that my bags arrive when I do =).

I must admit that I am not looking forward to the 26 hour flight. However, on the bright side I am very much looking forward to seeing the Kiwanuka family once I arrive. It has been 6 years since I have seen them and they have 3 additional children since then. There children call me Auntie Jana and Fred calls me his American sister. It is nice to be going to a place where I have 'family' waiting for me. God is indeed good. Working with Fred and Judith is a 'dream' that God placed in my heart back in 2004 when we were in Jamaica training together in community development. Our friend Claudia Altamirano from Nicaragua also hopes to join us in Uganda and go with us to Tanzania to staff the International Foundations of Community Development Course in Morogoro.

Pray requests:
1. safe travel
2. energy to finish all the little things I need to do before I leave =)
3. expedited work permit for Tanzania (once I get to Uganda)
4. luggage arrives with me!!!!!
5. health

Praise report:
1. for those who are giving finacially
2. friends who have called, emailed, taken me out to eat, helped me pack, etc.

I would appreciate your continued prayers! I know that I do not stand alone.

Serving Together,
Jana

Leaving on a jet plane.

It's less than two weeks until I leave for Uganda. I am excited and also a little nervous! It's been 5 years since I've been out on the mission field and I've never been to Africa. I should be use to traveling alone and to countries for the first time. After all, this is not my first trip =).  At least this time I will be meeting and working with people I know and who will meet me at the airport in Entebbe!

I received word today that there have been bombings in Kampala, which is the capital of Uganda. Islamic terrorists targeted 3 different locations, 2 bombs went off and the 3rd failed to detonate. At last count 76 people were killed and many injured. The group that claimed responsibility is angry at the Ugandan government for sending troops to aid the UN backed transitional government in Somalia.  They have threatened to attack both Uganda and Burundi.

Please pray for the nation of Uganda during this time. Also, pray for my safety as I travel as well as that God would provide all my needs as I get ready to leave and after I arrive.
